There’s something about mountains, their mammoth proportions diminishing all life on earth. Mountains figure prominently in literature and song, as both awe-inspiring giants or cold-blooded killers, either sending souls into rapture or clutching their chests in fear. Why else would climbers – fool-hardy or intrepid, depending upon your point of view – ascend Everest?
